About Me

At the tender age of 10, I set up a stand in our yard to sell toys to kids in the neighborhood. I became a whiz at the trading of marbles. In high school, I majored in business, including Business Law and Retail Selling.In 1979, I got my first retail job as a salesman in Polk Brothers of Chicago. I soon found myself as Department Manager. I received much training and coaching from the District Manager, who helped me develop my skills at visual perception and integrating the best interests of sales floor operations with customers' expectations. Best of all, through this District Manager, I learned and developed an immunity to Store Blindness, one of the biggest barriers to progressive profits in retail. After nine years, I continued my career with Ace Hardware for ten years. Here, I received formal training in the products, but also I received formal training in Inventory Control. I worked mostly as Department Manager, but then moving up to Supervisor. This has been supplemented with positions at Osco Drug, Petco, Horton and Converse Drugs, Barney's New York, Keystone Marketing, Mosaic Retail Solutions and True Value.
